Volunteer
You're ready, willing and able, but don't know where to begin? Check out the Programs or the Ministries sections. If you have a specific skill or handy task you'd like to contribute, you can serve our church or community by volunteering in our offer a skill section.
Shown here are two volunteers for our unique version of the worldwide Nothing But Nets Malaria prevention campaign. This past Valentines Day, members purchased a valentine from our Missions Commission and for $10, UMCOR and the United Methodist Church delivered an anti-malaria bed net that protects an entire family for four years against this awful disease. Last year our church family sent nets to 374 families. A true outpouring of love on Valentine’s Day.
Why is combating malaria important?
• Another child will die of malaria within 30 seconds.
• The disease affects 500 million people worldwide.
• 90% live in sub-Sahara Africa where it kills one fifth of the children under age five.
• Children who survive may develop chronic anemia and neurological impairment.
• Pregnant women are particularly susceptible.
• Malaria consumes 40% of public health expenditures and accounts for up to 50% of all outpatient visits and
30-50% of inpatient admissions in some places.
