If you are interested in joining the First United Methodist Church, Come to the front of the Sanctuary at the start of the closing hymn OR Visit with one of the pastors after worship.

What is membership?

In The United Methodist Church, members take vows to support the congregation with their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. For us, membership includes becoming a regular part of the mission and ministry of this congregation, including regularly being present in worship, participating in study and social opportunities, volunteering in a wide variety of ways, and supporting the ministries of this congregation with your financial contributions.

When you take vows of membership, you also become a part of the entire United Methodist Church. This means that you, through this congregation, are connected to the other 12,000,000 United Methodists in almost every country around the globe!

What do members do?

Members are called upon to serve in a variety of ways in the life of our church. You may be asked to help plan or coordinate special events or ministries, serve on a committee, and/or participate in the worship life of our congregation. Additionally, members of a local church have voice and vote at our annual meetings that determine our budget, vision, and overall goals.

Can I still participate if I’m not a member?

Absolutely! Membership is a commitment that includes all of the things above, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of this faith community. With the exception of a few committees and voting privileges at our annual meeting, all people are welcome to fully participate at FUMCAH.

How do I become a member?

People interested in membership are invited to come to the front of the sanctuary at the beginning of the closing hymn to take vows of membership. For those who might feel uncomfortable doing this without previous preparation or conversation, please contact Pastor Will Green or Pastor Ouk-Yean Kim Jueng for more information.

There are four different ways in which members are received:

1. Transfer from another United Methodist Church
If you’ve been part of another United Methodist Church, you can easily transfer to our congregation. Once we’ve received your demographic information, we will handle all aspects of the transfer.

2. Join by vows from another denomination
If you’ve been a member of a denomination other than the United Methodist Church, you can come forward to take vows at the closing hymn.

3. Join by profession of faith
For a person who has been baptized by has never been a member of a congregation, you can join by publicly professing your faith during worship.

4. Baptism and Profession of Faith
Baptism is the symbol of God’s grace through Jesus Christ. If you were not baptized as a child and would like to be baptized, please visit with one of our pastors.
