ADULT PROGRAMS

SMALLGROUPS

At FUMCAH, our small groups are a way to grow in faith and build relationships by “doing life together.”  The emphasis is not on any particular curriculum; resources are used to help the members grow and to share their daily faith journey with one another while encouraging vital discipleship.  While some small groups are ongoing, most have particular beginning and ending points.  New groups are announced throughout the year.  Groups currently meeting include:

Rainbow Circle

Rainbow Circle is a diverse group of LGBTQ+ Christians who are exploring the intersections of faith, RC Option 1sexuality, and gender identity. Together we are creating safe spaces in which seekers can grow in faith through relationship, conversation, service, and outreach. We welcome you all, faithful and fearful, sure and uncertain, to join us as we grow together. We have a regularly scheduled conversation group every other Wednesday(7:30pm), as well as events like group volunteer projects and outings. For more information, please email us at rainbowcircleillinois@gmail.com. You can also visit our meetup.com page.

“Living the Five”

STUDY-GROUPS

Faith is both formed and informed when we study together.  At FUMCAH, there are several study groups.  Most welcome new members at any time.

Sunday morning:

Kaleidoscope

Sundays, 10:40 a.m. (directly after worship)

Kaleidoscope is our multi-faceted Sunday morning program welcoming all adults. The focus changes from week to week with various topics and frequent guest speakers – all hoping to offer interesting perspectives on life and faith.  Kaleidoscope meets after worship, about 10:40, in the Wesley Room on the lower level.  Check back soon for our Fall Kaleidoscope calendar.

Soothing Stitches: Prayer Shawl Ministry

As shawls are knitted or crocheted, images of healing, compassion, and joy are prayed into the stitches. The work of our hands blesses the heart of each shawl’s recipient. Join our circle of knitters and crocheters at church each third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm, or work on your project at home and add your handiwork to our next shawl blessing. In addition to shawls, Soothing Stitchers create hats for new babies, mittens, and caps for Spirit Lake mission, prayer squares (something new this year!) and other loving gifts. Last summer, shawls were sent to Appalachia with our Appalachia Service Project Mission Team and to South Korea with Mary Stitt, in addition to those given to members of our church family as an expression of our care and prayers.

POLO Club

Commonground

Are you a couple with young children? This NEW group is designed just for you, providing an opportunity to become better acquainted with other parents of young children. Child care available by reservation; please provide a sack supper for your children. Contact Wendy Dunnington.

Act 2

Get caught in the act…Act 2 that is.
This social group is primarily for those in their 50s and 60s, many of whom are in their second act – juggling older kids, grown kids, new careers, and even grandkids. While we have no regular schedule, we typically meet 4-5 times per year. Our activities include events like comedy shows or bowling to low key game nights and pizza parties. Join us for one or several events. One thing we guarantee is that you will have fun and meet great people. Contact Laura Hynes or Patty Neuswanger. We will add you to our list to get notifications of events. Don’t sit on the sidelines. Get into the Act…Act 2.
